Here at Falcon Pediatric Dentistry, we make your child’s health and comfort our highest priorities. We want your child to feel at ease and have a positive dental experience when they visit our pediatric dental team. One of the ways we help them do this is through our Falcon sedation dentistry treatment options.

Sedation dentistry features the use of mild sedatives to manage special needs or ease anxiety for your child during dental procedures. This is particularly effective if your child requires multiple or lengthy procedures or has an intense fear of dental care.

Sedation dentistry comes in three forms:

-Mild sedation: This method has been used in dentistry for a very long time and is considered completely safe, even for its use in children. With a mask placed over their nose, your child breathes in nitrous oxide – also referred to as “laughing gas.” This classic type of sedation is effective because it relaxes patients quickly, but also wears off rapidly once the mask is removed.

-Moderate sedation: Oral sedation is also referred to as “conscious sedation.” It is performed by administering a mild sedative in liquid form that relaxes the patient, but leaves them in a state in which they can respond to the dentist. It is commonly used during extensive dental procedures, or to enable children to be compliant while undergoing dental treatment. Children under oral sedation remain awake throughout the procedure.

-Deep sedation:  General anesthesia is provided by a licensed physician and anesthesiologist. Treatment under general anesthesia is extremely safe and allows for an entire treatment plan to be finished in a single appointment. The anesthesiologist constantly monitors your child’s vital signs, which allows Dr. Beck to focus on and accomplish the dental treatment. Although every medical procedure carries risks, the safety involved with this option makes it a highly recommended procedure for young patients who require an extensive amount of work, or patients who, for whatever reason are unable to cooperate in the dental office.
